INSTALL
Install Aurexion, step by step.
Aurexion runs as one container image on your own machine. These steps take you from your licence e-mail to the app open in your browser. The app is reachable from that machine only.
1. What you need
- Linux with Docker or Podman, and Compose (
docker composeorpodman compose); or - Windows 10 or 11 with WSL2, the Ubuntu distribution and Podman inside it (see section 6).
- The licence e-mail from your purchase. It has your licence key and the download command.
2. Get the program
Run the download command from your licence e-mail, exactly as it is written there. It already contains your key and the download address. Its shape is:
curl -fL -H "Authorization: License YOUR-LICENCE-KEY" -o aurexion.tar "THE-ADDRESS-FROM-YOUR-E-MAIL"
This saves the file aurexion.tar in the current folder. Load it into your container runtime:
docker load -i aurexion.tar # or: podman load -i aurexion.tar
3. Create the data folder
Aurexion keeps everything in one data folder: the runs database, the market data, your settings and your strategies. Back this folder up. The app runs as its own user (uid 10001) inside the container, and that user must be able to write to the folder, so the folder is given to that user. Use the command for your runtime:
mkdir -p "$HOME/aurexion-data"
podman unshare chown 10001:10001 "$HOME/aurexion-data" # rootless Podman (the usual setup)
sudo chown 10001:10001 "$HOME/aurexion-data" # Docker, or Podman run as root
4. Start it with Compose
Save the text below as compose.yaml in a folder of your choice. Then run the commands below from that folder.
# Aurexion with Docker Compose (or podman compose).
#
# docker load -i aurexion.tar # or: podman load -i aurexion.tar (the file from your licence e-mail)
# export AUREXION_DATA="$HOME/aurexion-data" # your data folder (create it first, see the install guide)
# export AUREXION_VERSION=stable # optional, the default is stable
# docker compose up -d # or: podman compose up -d
#
# Network: host networking. serve listens on 127.0.0.1:8787 inside the container, so only host
# networking makes it reachable from this machine. Do NOT add `ports: - "8787:8787"`: that
# publishes it to the whole network.
services:
aurexion:
image: localhost/aurexion:${AUREXION_VERSION:-stable}
container_name: aurexion
network_mode: host
restart: unless-stopped
volumes:
- ${AUREXION_DATA:?set AUREXION_DATA to your data folder}:/data
# The licence is bound to this machine's id; read-only, never written.
- /etc/machine-id:/etc/machine-id:ro
export AUREXION_DATA="$HOME/aurexion-data"
docker compose up -d # or: podman compose up -d
5. Or run it as a Podman service that starts on boot
Do this after steps 2 and 3. Save the text below as aurexion.container, then install it as your own user, not root.
# Aurexion as a Podman Quadlet (systemd user unit).
#
# Install (as your own user, not root):
# mkdir -p ~/.config/containers/systemd
# the data folder ~/aurexion-data must exist and belong to uid 10001 (see the install guide)
# cp aurexion.container ~/.config/containers/systemd/
# # the image comes from the downloaded file: podman load -i aurexion.tar (nothing to build)
# systemctl --user daemon-reload
# systemctl --user start aurexion
# loginctl enable-linger "$USER" # keeps it running after logout and starts it at boot
#
# Network: Network=host, as in compose.yaml. serve listens on 127.0.0.1:8787 inside the container;
# never add PublishPort=8787:8787 (that opens it to the whole network).

6. Windows: set up WSL2 first
Aurexion runs inside WSL2, the Linux layer built into Windows. You use it in your normal Windows browser.
- Open PowerShell and run
wsl --install -d Ubuntu. Restart Windows when asked. - Open Ubuntu from the Start menu once and create your Linux user.
- Open
%UserProfile%\.wslconfig(for exampleC:\Users\you\.wslconfig; create it if it is missing). Backtests fill the file cache, and this setting hands it back. Make sure the file contains:
If the file already has an[experimental] autoMemoryReclaim=dropCache[experimental]section, add the line under it. Then runwsl --shutdownin PowerShell once, when no backtest is running.
In the Ubuntu window, install Podman, then follow steps 2 to 5 above inside Ubuntu. Keep the data folder inside Linux ($HOME/aurexion-data), the fastest place for WSL.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y podman podman-compose
7. Open the app
On the same machine, open http://127.0.0.1:8787. On Windows, open that address in your Windows browser. On the first start the app asks for your licence key: paste the key from your e-mail and choose Activate.
The app listens on this machine only. Do not publish its port to your network or the internet.
8. Update to a new version
Run the download command from your latest licence e-mail, then load the file again. Your data folder is kept. --force-recreate makes the container start again from the newly loaded image.
docker load -i aurexion.tar # or: podman load -i aurexion.tar
docker compose up -d --force-recreate # or: podman compose up -d --force-recreate
If you run the Podman service instead, run systemctl --user restart aurexion after loading the file.
