Costs and fees
A simulated result carries the costs you set. This page covers fees and points to the settings for the other costs.
Fees
There are two rates, both a percentage per side: Maker fee and Taker fee. The app defaults are 0.02% and 0.055%, the Bybit VIP0 rates. A field accepts 0 to 1%. The rates are the numbers you enter.
- Backtester. Settings, Fills and fees, in the Fees group. A run can override them in the Engine & execution card.
- Paper. Settings, in the Fees group, then Save and apply. It applies to running and new instances.
- Live. Live fills are the exchange's, so live instances have no fee setting.
How a fee is charged
Each fill pays its price times its quantity times a rate. The maker rate applies to resting limit fills, including every take-profit. The taker rate applies to market orders and triggered stops. The Trades CSV download on a result carries the fee of each trade.
The other costs
- Fills and slippage and Spread set what a taker gives up when it crosses the spread.
- Latency sets how long an order waits, which changes the price it gets.
- Market impact prices order size and is off by default.
- Limit fills and queue lots sets when a resting limit fills at all.
Reading the effect
A check in the engine's test suite pins that worse execution never improves the net result: raising slippage or fees cannot raise net P&L.
Not simulated yet
Perpetual funding payments are not applied in a backtest or in paper. On a live account the exchange's funding settlements are booked as a cost on the position they were charged against.
